Description
Participants will have opportunities to create and practice using collage cards in conjunction with sandtray therapy in an online format. The primary focus will be on self-care and the ethical requirements for all therapists to pay attention to their own personal growth and development. A secondary purpose will be honing skills that can be used for either in-person clinical therapy or for Telehealth clinical therapy with adults. We will focus on the following skills: empathy, mapping self and other regulatory states, boundary setting, deep listening, and practicing presence.
Educational Goals
This training will help participants to:
- Discuss the ethical mandate of self-care as described by the Social Worker’s Code of Ethics as it relates to the role of play therapist.
- Describe how to use sand, play, and collage integration to practice regular self-care.
- Use a journaling process to deepen self-care using sand and collage in play therapy for self-care focusing on co-regulation, empathy, boundary setting, deep listening, and practicing presence.
- Plan specific ways for using the integration of sandtray play and collage for self-care as a play therapist.
- Describe how the acquisition of play therapy skills through sand and collage in a group setting benefits physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
- Describe the relationship of creating sand and collage rituals for self-care.
