Continuing Education Credits
The Sand Tray Training Institute of New Mexico is approved by the following to offer continuing education credits: The National Board for Certified Counselors, NBCC (#5972); the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners (#CS5455). The New Mexico Board of Social Work Examiners accepts continuing education as being Board approved if approved by other state social work boards in the United States (The Institute is approved by Texas). In addition, it is approved by the Association for Play Therapy, APT Approved Provider (99-052), to offer continuing education specific to play therapy. The Sand Tray Training Institute of New Mexico follows all CE guidelines and maintains responsibility for the program. One continuing education unit is equal to one contact hour of training. Co-Sponsor: Family Enhancement and Play Therapy Center (FEPTC) of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania. The Family Enhancement and Play Therapy Center is approved by the American Psychological Association, APA (#0833) and the National Board for Certified Counselors (#5732) to offer continuing education credits to psychologists and counselors, respectively. The FEPTC is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider ACEPTM) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program. The FEPTC is also approved by the Association for Play Therapy, APT Approved Provider (#95-014), to offer continuing education specific to play therapy. We are approved by many state social work boards and try to obtain social work and other CE approvals on a state-by-state basis whenever possible. The Family Enhancement and Play Therapy Center follows all CE guidelines and maintains responsibility for the program. Six (6) continuing education credits per workshop day will be awarded to participants who attend the entire time of each of the workshops as listed above for our “live classrooms” at our Corrales, NM location. Four (4) continuing education credits per workshop day will be awarded for online half days. Partial credit cannot be given. No exceptions can be made to this policy. Please call with any questions about your CE needs.
Checking Your Personal CE Requirements
It is always a good idea to check with your own credentialing agencies (state boards, affiliated agencies, etc.) to ensure that the CE credits you receive from us are applicable to your specific situation. You need to attend the entire training sessions to receive credit. Partial credits cannot be given. In cases of family or other unavoidable emergencies that interrupt your attendance for a short time, makeup possibilities for time missed may incur a fee based on our hourly consultation rate.
For our in-person workshops, participants earn six continuing education units (CEs) per workshop day (6 contact hours). Most of our workshops are two full days (12 CEs) or four full days (24 CEs), and a few are three days (18 CEs). Each person who attends the entire training will receive a Certificate of Training verifying the number of CEs earned. We are not permitted to give partial credit per requirements of our credentialing agencies.
For our online workshops, participants earn four continuing education units (CEs) per workshop day (4 contact hours). Most of our online workshops are three half days (12 CEs) or six half days (24 CEs). Each person who attends the entire training will receive a Certificate of Training verifying the number of CEs earned. We are not permitted to give partial credit per requirements of our credentialing agencies. Our online workshops typically begin at 8:40 am and end at 1:00 pm with a 20-minute break. New Mexico is in the Mountain Time Zone.
We do require constant video access during our online groups for purposes of attendance. We also value the opportunities to demonstrate and create the relational qualities that are essential for the development of the therapist’s ability to witness and create safety through connection. We prefer a natural background for your video instead of a digital one to ensure camera stability.
Association for Play (APT) Therapy Policy for Online Training
APT considers all online training as non-contact CEs except for their COVID-19 policy now in effect through June 30, 2022. Please check with the APT for further updates after June 30, 2022. The following statement (adjusted for actual number of CEs) will appear on all certificates of training for online classes while this policy is in effect:
“Due to COVID-19 health concerns, this one-time online event has been approved by APT for (__ hours) CONTACT CE Hours.”
The APT offers a Registered Play Therapy (RPT) credential that has its own set of specific requirements. Although we are an approved provider, we do not organize our curriculum around those specific requirements, for example so many hours in play therapy history, theory, skill practice, and so on. We cannot verify how the APT counts these hours in their credentialing. Please check with your supervisor and/or the APT to check with them how they would interpret our objectives and descriptions in terms of the specifics required.
